I’ve been practicing yoga since 1998 and teaching since 1999, but didn’t get my RYT 200 designation until 2004. In hindsight, it doesn’t seem like such a long time, but I remember trying to decide whether or not to take a more formal training. I had taken shorter trainings along the way, but wondered if the RYT would be worth my time and effort (and money!).
I had a full-time corporate job at the time and didn’t know if I’d have time in my schedule or how many yoga classes I’d really teach. I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to get back into teaching at all. I looked and looked at programs (and narrowed it to 3), but kept putting it off. All the back and forth I did about it seems funny to me now!
The tipping point was that I couldn’t stop thinking about it. After several months of putting it off, trying to decide which program was best for me, weighing the pros and cons, I knew the only way to really figure it out was just to do it.
I have never regretted it, not once! I got off to a slow start in getting back to teaching after my training (a family move, a new baby!), but have always been glad that I took the training, that I gained those skills and that I deepened my own practice. All good stuff!
